About

I was born in Gateshead in 1956 and grew up in north-east England. I moved to Cheshire aged 19 to start my first job on a local newspaper. Many years and several jobs later I started working for a national newspaper in London and moved to Essex with my then-wife Sue and our three children. We now have four grandchildren too.

I worked as a local reporter in Cheshire, as a sub-editor in Liverpool, then as a sub-editor at the Sunday Mirror in London. After 25 years the Mirror couldn’t afford me any more and I was (quite gently) pushed out of the door. I later worked at The Spectator magazine and freelanced for several national papers. Alongside my work as a sub-editor I occasionally wrote articles about travel and music.

I now live in Paris with my PACS partner Florence and am happily retired from regular employment.
